Lisa, there are parts of the Bookshare site which are probably using
some type of scripting. I haven't tried paying via the BN. My
suggestion would be to pay via computer until you get version 6.1.
I've been a member of bookshare for two years, and although their web
site has improved, it can still be a daunting task to do something
like pay online if you aren't sure just how to do that. I think that
paying by computer, perhaps with some sighted assistance makes sense
to me.

<smile> The reason the site doesn't work with the payment web site is
because when you enter your password and go to the secure site to make
your payment, the BN cannot interpret the HTML code that is being
used. It goes as far as trying to enter the password, but then chokes
on the rest of the code. The only thing the poor BN knows is that the
password doesn't work. It's not a human being, it can't make the
mental leap between the password generating garbage it can't interpret
and the fact that it isn't the password it's the stuff after it that
matters.

Sending you hugs, Lisa. You're doing just fine. You don't have to be
a business person or very technical to use Bookshare. Obviously, you
need the password to enter the secure site so you can pay. That's why
they give it to you. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone else on
the list has tried to pay online with the BN. If so, then you have a
problem. If not, then bookshare needs to fix their site, or you need
to wait till 6.1 comes out.

Well, I'm sure that it must seem like nothing's working out and you
want to throw in the towel and just forget it. Seventy-five dolars is
a lot of money. However, it is a worthwhile expense if you plan on
reading a book a month. You can also reduce your fee for next year by
contributing scanned books. So, it isn't too bad. All the books on
Bookshare are readable with the BN if you download the BRF versions.
The BN won't handle the DAISY versions. All books come in both
versions.

Lisa, go get some rest, have a good cup of tea or a long cold drink
and relax. Then look at your problem again. You sound utterly
discouraged. Don't be. Flash cards aren't all that expensive now. I
think they're $25.00 or so, not sure. Having a flash card is a good
idea. You can store more than just books on them. You could store
your school papers and such. Then perhaps you wouldn't lose your
files. Yes, a flashcard can become corrupted, but so can the BN or a
computer. If you listen to the what-ifs of life, you're not going to
do anything at all. I'm sure that isn't what you want.
