Hi Sherry,

I'm sorry! I never meant to imply that it wasn't possible to organize
folders within folders. I suggested it might be easier to open a book in as
few steps as possible because you hadn't used it to read BRF files before.
I remember being new at the BrailleNote and just wanting to get into a book
and start reading with having to mess around with directories and
subdirectories. I am extremely organized on the PC, but, even though I have
been using the book reader for almost three years, I still just keep a books
folder full of assorted books on my CF card in my BrailleNote. Laura
doesn't think it's a hassle, but some other people on the list have had
trouble with the extra steps at first. Happy reading!

Sarah

Subject: directories - [Braillenote] web braille, i think i did something
wrong

Hi Sherry:

>From a fellow organize nut to another, your system of organizing files is
>very very workable on the bn. Sarah said that the bn has trouble
>navigating multiple layers of folders. I think the appropriate sentiment
>is "It would be easy to believe the bn has trouble navigating multiple
>layers of folders if you read the haphazard documentation ox the issue.
>LOL. OK, now that I beat that issue into the ground, again... Here is
>what you must do.

Like you, I have a folder on my cf card called books. Within this folder, I
have some files where I only have one or two books written by an author, but
if I have a series or a group of books by one author, I create other folders
named for the series or the author.

If as move folders of this nature from the PC to the bn, simply do the
following.

>From the main menu, press w for keyword or b for the bookreader, whichever
>you want to read the book in.
Select the drive you stored the boos on. Here, instead of typing in the
name of the folder, press space with t (control with t) to get you into
directory mode. Now, after pressing space once, you will see that you are
viewing a list of the subdirectories housed within your "books" directory.
You can use the space bar (arrow keys), or type the first letter of the
folder as you normally would to find the directory you want. Note that
this procedure could be done for as many levels of folders you have. Also
note that upon selecting the subdirectory you want, you must press enter
again (AFTER the initial pressing to select the subdirectories), because the
bn will think you are still looking for another level of folders, and either
present you with a list of them if they are present, or prompt you with "no
more subdirectories." Pressing enter the second time will prompt the bn to
ask you for a file name.

Alternatively, when you press space with t (control with t) to switch to the
directory mode, you can type out the full pathname, such as
books/tolken/bookname.Whichever is your preference is fine.

Once you get the hang of the directory business, it is very easy to use and
that way you are able to use your preferred method of filing. Please try
these instructions and let me know if they've been helpful. HTH, Laura

>Yes, I did exactly that. for instance, I downloaded the lord of the rings.
>I made a folder for tolkien and then a new folder for each book. I'll try
>taking them out of the separate folders. However, is it ok to keep them in
>on folder such as card/Tolkien, then individual files? I was in a hurry
>last night, so I did books that I would love to have in braille, so it was
>LOTR the Harry potter series, and the little house books. it would be
>easier to find things if they can at least be in folders by author, though
>not by each book. Thanks. I will try this right away.
