Kim you can also purchase the compact flash card reader and a flash card at Office Depot. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan Stageberg" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Braillenote List" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2005 10:41 AM Subject: RE: [Braillenote] converting files from BN to MS Word
Kim, when you have purchased the card and the card reader, I'll be happy to walk you through managing files. I bought my card and my card reader on line at www.memorysuppliers.com, but all sorts of places carry them. However, I'm elementary enough in my use of computer programs that I need walked through the process step by step. Would someone be willing to provide me step by step instructions for the compact flash card option? One is by using a program called ActiveSync, which you install on your PC. You set up a partnership between the BrailleNote and the PC using ActiveSync, and your PC says, "Oh, I see this mobile device as another drive." And then you can scoot files around using My Computer or Windows Explorer on the PC. ActiveSync probably is on the CD you got with your BrailleNote, or you can go to Microsoft's web site and download it and install it on your PC. Then you will need a connection between the two critters--serial, USB... The other way is to get yourself a compact flash card reader and a compact flash card. You can get these at places like CompUSA. The card reader is a little device (mine cost $15) that plugs into the USB port on your PC. You insert the compact flash card into the reader, and again, the PC says, "Aha! Removable Storage." Mine calls it drive E. Then you can scoot files around as above. When you've done all your housekeeping, the compact flash card goes in the back slot of the BrailleNote as discussed yesterday on this list. And voila! There are your Word files or whatever. I should add here that my BrailleNote, which is running version 5.1 build 22, has a decided aversion to Word XP files from the PC. I hope I've helped and not muddied the waters incurably.
