Hi Gary, I raised the issue a few weeks ago and it was greeted with silence by the PDI staff, so I don't know whether it's being considered for a future upgrade. At the moment unzipping on the bn is a bit dicy. However, one of the list members discovered that one could use the bookshare unpack utility to unzip some files. I have received zipped attachments, some of which I was able to unzip, and others refused to unzip. It seems as if one can unzip a file, which does not have more than one file in a folder, otherwise it either refuses to unzip, or one gets gibberish. I suggest that you try the following and if it doesn't work, no harm is done:
First, don't delete your zip attachment from the email on saving the file where you wish to unpack it. Then, rename your zip extension on the file you want to unzip to .bks in order to have the bn treat it as a bookshare file. Then enter on the renamed file, where you will be prompted where you wish to unpack this bookshare file. Choose the drive and folder and on the password prompt, just press enter. If you're lucky, it will unzip your file there and you will be able to read it. If it's something that it does not unzip at this stage, it will give some error message to the effect that it is unable to unpack this bookshare file. The reason why I said that you should retain your attachment, wich still has the .zip extension, is that some users have experienced that a file got corrupted when they rename a previously renamed file back to the original. I don't know whether that particular bug has been fixed. But does any one know whether there's been any thought put to giving the Braile note the capacity to unzip standard zipped files? There are unzip progs that run on the Windows CE platform as I understand it. I get quite a lot of newspapers delivered by email and they're zipped. Would be good if I could simply unzip these directly on the BN without having to transfer the file back and forth to the PC.
