The first time this happened to me I had just about the same reaction.
Problems like this one are why I joined the BN list.  That, and because
there are still some things I don't know about the machine.

I was devastated one Saturday night when both my compact flash cards were
formatted without my permission and I lost several hundred recipes and
several hundred braille books.  I almost cried, and I felt as if I'd been in
a fire!  I got some stuff back but not everything.  I just couldn't bring
myself to write to the list because I didn't want to talk about it.  I
learned a very expensive lesson; I back up on virtually every storage card I
have, plus the computer.
