GARLIC-FENNEL BREADSTICKS
-------------------------------------------------------------

1 loaf frozen bread dough
1/4 cup good olive oil
2 teaspoons fennel seeds
8-10 minced garlic cloves (more or less - your choice)
coarse salt (to taste)

Thaw and rise dough according to the individual package directions.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a small saucepan, heat your oil then add your garlic and fennel.
Saute over medium-high heat for 30 - 60 seconds stirring constantly
until golden.
With fork or potato masher, smash garlic into a paste-like
consistency.
Punch down bread dough and on floured board, knead several times
before rolling out to about one 9 by 12 inch rectangle.
Spread over dough as evenly as possible the garlic mixture.
Beginning with the short (9 inch) end, roll dough up into a cylinder
(jelly-roll fashion).
Then...re-roll out into another rectangle about the same size as
before.
With a sharp knife, cut dough into strips about 1 by 10 inches or so
each.
Carefully transfer to lightly oiled baking sheet and as you
do...twist each strip several times to create a spiral.
Sprinkle with the salt.
Cover and let them rise for 30-45 minutes, until puffed but not
doubled in size.
Bake until golden brown, approximately 12-15 minutes.
