Hello Marc,

You are not alone here!

I got my Brewtus II in August this year and it came with the same
lever-type metal switch.
Nothing to worry about!
Actually, we are better off with this less fancy, less complicated
straightforward on/off switch. Read the reviews about melting red
rocker switches on this forum and you will understand why.

I have a suggestion for you and everyone willing to listen.
You can leave this switch in the ON position and never have to flip it
again, thus increasing its useful life. The trick is to buy a “wall
timer switch” and connect the machine to it. I recommend (following
some other recommendations on this forum) an electronic one (versus
mechanical) –Maker: INTERMATIC, Model: DT17C.
Just make sure you buy the one with the GRAY (On/Off) oversized button
(amidst the other all white smaller buttons) on the front panel. This
is the newer model and it’s easier to work with. I got mine from here
(can’t beat the price):
http://www.beachaudio.com/Intermatic/Dt17c-p-126860.html?utm_campaign=froogle&utm_content=reg&utm_term=dt17c&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=froogle&GTKW=dt17c&GCID=C12585x003

I plug this timer switch in an APC “surge protector strip” (I plug my
grinder there too). You leave the on/off switch on the Brewtus ON and
you never touch it again.
The machine is turned on/off through the electronic timer (you
determine the schedule for every day of the week). If you want to
override the timer’s setting (turn the machine on or off earlier then
scheduled) you use the Gray button on the Intermatic.

There is a LED light on the timer which tells you when the timer
(machine) is On or Off. So, you have your visual cue.

The less distracting the front panel of the Brewtus, the better you
can concentrate on making your espresso. You already have enough
things to monitor -2 gauges, the underside of your naked portafilter,
the kitchen timer you are using to time your shots. As I said, the
less distraction, the better.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy you new baby Brewt!

And by the way, one of the best ways to learn is to browse/search the
archives of this forum. Many questions have been already covered.
That said, I don’t mind helping you or whoever needs a little help.
It is my pleasure!

Greetings,

Brewtus Maximus
