Working on my temp dropping/low temp problem

Looking really closely at my boiler sensor wire (the black one from
the control panel)
I DO see where some of the wire insulation is worn

I'd like to remove the sensor, clean it (have needed to do it in the
past)
and see if I can repair that wire, instead of waiting for a whole new
sensor

The nut that holds that sensor in the boiler is on pretty tight
(I tightened it last time, but I'd like to think its tight due to the
heat. ; )

Any recommendations on how to loosen the bolt?
Can I use regular wd 40 kinda stuff?

If the black wire is frayed inside, I dont think I can cut it out and
splice, cuz it looks pretty dainty
I'm going to pull the sensor if I can anyways and clean it off..
