One question for you, however, is whether or not you are able to knock out a whole puck from these baskets? I have always been able to use the puck to know whether or not my grind is correct, by whether the puck comes out sloppy and wet, damp and firm, or dry and crumbly. With the VST baskets, the puck always seems to disintegrate, which I'm guessing is because of the straight sides?

Thanks again for the heads-up. It's been a long time since I've had a jump in quality like this.

Where are you in Seattle? I'm across the sound on Bainbridge/ Braindead Island.

Hi Ben,

I'm glad you're also having a good VST experience. I get a clean solid puck, but it's a little tricky to knock out without the basket coming with it... I don't think the straight sides are making your puck disintegrate. Perhaps you need to grind a little finer yet? I'm getting my best shots when the preinfusion takes about 10 - 11 seconds. This is 2 -3 seconds more than the old LM baskets. On a really good shot, when the coffee comes out, it is a very thin trickle - almost like Schomer's pictures if you've seen his book. After about 28 seconds I have about 1-1/2 ozs. in the shot glasses. I could rarely achieve this before the VST baskets, for whatever reasons...

My studio is in the Interbay area, but I live outside of North Bend...
