I have removed mine and reinserted it again (Brewtus IV). Both easy to do; you just need unscrew the tip then take some needle-nose pliers, gently grip the end of the plastic insert and pull. There is a metal 'coil' that sits between the plastic insert and the wand which will come out with it.
I gave it a try, but to be honest my skills are probably not good enough to make a judgement about the benefit. I put it back because I like the 'no-burn' feature. When my skills get better I might give it another go.
