Thanks for the reply Ira, it seems the general term is glass insulated wire, like you say, silicon with a glass braided coating.
I've found a supplier, I was going to go 18ga but will go for 16 as they have no 14ga now you say it's enough. I will have to call though as their online shipping costs seem to be geared at bulk buys and I only need a couple of meters tops. Thanks Ira.
