Our Expobar machine started tripping GFCI instantly upon turn-on. I traced it to the tank heater. When I pulled the wires off the heater terminals on the tank, I measured only 2 Ohms from one of the heater terminals to the metal case. That's a LOT of leakage from AC power to the metal housing, so it seems pretty certain that the heater element needs to be changed.
I got the tank out of the machine, and put a 1.5" socket on the heater element's big hex nut, but I cannot budge it. I tried holding the tank in some wooden blocks in a vise, but I can't hold it tight enough to allow me to move the hex without potentially crushing the tank. There seems to be some sort of glue sealing the threads. I even tried heating the threads up with a little torch, but I still can't the the heater to turn. Does anyone have any clues how get the heater element out? I thought I got through the worst when I got the tank out, but this is stumping me. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Brewtus" group.
