Hi Jeff, Pump firing up seems to indicate the steam boiler is re-filling. Is your vacuum breaker leaking? Can you observe the regular rise and fall of the steam pressure due to the p-stat kicking in and out?
There is a little dot that shows in the temp controller display that indicates the controller is calling for heat. Do you see that dot showing if the display indicates 88? Sounds like the controller is overshooting - is it a PID controller or a simple temp controller?
