Thanks, that is very helpful. I read on a few threads that it can be hard 
to get the descaler out of the machine by just running the pump, and that 
one may have to run it for so long that it wears out the pump. Was that an 
exaggeration? 

Also, do you have an opinion on descaling frequency? There was a paper note 
from the manufacturer in the box when my machine arrived saying to descale 
every 60 days(!!). I live in Paris, where the water is very hard, but I am 
using both the standard filter in the water tank and a Britta filter before 
I put the water in the tank. Usage is light--only 4-8 coffees per day.
