Boom doesn't sound good. No sign of moisture anywhere? Did you happen to 
notice the steam boiler pressure reading?

I've had pstat stick so that steam boiler pressure release was triggered. 
It was not a boom. It was a big loud burst of steam that left inside of the 
machine wet. The steam pressure was way up.

In your pics there's two things with brass pins out the top. The one on the 
left is the reverse pressure relief valve, it is loose when machine is cold 
and it rises and seals shut when steam boiler pressurizes. The one on the 
right is the emergency pressure relief, that is a spring-backed mechanical 
value that opens when steam boiler pressure is too high.

I'm an idiot so I would plug in machine with cover off and look for a leak, 
but normal people shouldn't do anything dangerous like that unless they're 
wearing bomb disposal gear.
