I had the same problem with my dmfe NIC driver, when I update from 2.4.4 to
2.4.9. This error message was a "feature" which is not good for my hardware
situation. Because the message was also print every minute to the console
screen!

So I opend dmfe.c in the linux/drivers/net/ and commented the printk line
out, which causes the message. Then I deleted the compiled dmfe.o in the
directory and do a make modules at linux/. After this I copy it to the
modules directory and do a depmod -a.

I don't know what NIC do you use, but the steps should be analog to them I
descibed.

I think this is an easy and clean method. After this I have no problems any
more and the driver works, like it should.
