I don't have any direct experience with the 486, but I run a 50Mhz
Embedded PPC processor, one of my interfaces is on a 'less-than-optimal'
PCMCIA bus and I push 6Mbps through it every day.
My suspicion would be driver/card/hub (or switch) issues, not the bridge
code.
You might try running netperf on top of each interface individually in an
effort to identify which one is the source of the problem.
