p166 , 32 ram , slackware 8 Kernel 2.4.13 , with bridge-nf-20010801-against-2.4.10.diff aplied cleanly. .Bridge utils 0.9.3 compiled on slackware 8 . kernel compiled with all firewalling options , bridge and raid which runs into mirroring mode . eth0 is pci 3com etherlink III , eth1 and eth2 are ne2000 isa (actual brand ukknown). The ne2000 cards are plug n play , they are properly identified by the kernel ,their drivers are compiled as modules and they are the ones participating in the bridge .The ifconfig ethx 0.0.0.0 appears to trigger the panic that occurs after a while (after the bridge is up and spends some time into learning mode). I will try to get some pci cards to replace the isa ones , since the HOWTO says it could be the nic`s driver faults and let you know . I also tried the ifconfig ethn promisc up and it made no difference . If i dont do the ifconfig ethn 0.0.0.0. step no panic occurs , but the bridge is not working also :)
