Hello,

I have been trying out the briding code for Linux 2.4.10 patched against
the 2.4.12 kernel and I am experiencing lockups of the system. Usually
the system will run fine for somewhere between 1 and 3 weeks, then
suddenly fail to respond to any input, whether from the network, keyboard,
or any other source. The bridge stops passing packets and the only
solution is a reboot. This problem also occurred when I was running the
2.4.10 kernel, but I believe that was with a different patch. It also has
occurred on another system, with the same configuration and on the same
network.

There is no log indicating the reason for the crash nor is there anything
written to the console. The system just freezes. Unfortatnely, I'm not
very familiar at debugging why a Linux system has crashed, so if anyone
can tell me some tricks to try, that would be great.

My setup is as following:

3com 905B-Fx  <---> Intel 1000F

Both cards are Fiber Ethernet cards. They have been used successfully
when I ran the bridging + firewall code in 2.2.x kernels.

I have about 3200 netfilter rules, broken out into 50+ chains.

Most chains do not contain over a 100 rules and the layout is designed to
be somewhat "tree like" to improve efficiency.

Average throughput of the system in packets is around 1000 packets/sec.
However, the system has peaked much higher. It is definitely an active
network.

Any help anyone can offere would be greatly appreciated.

-Kevin
