more - read the email again this morning .. a couple of typos in
there .....

1) forgot to mention the "ifconfig eth0 promisc" and "ifconfig
eth1 promisc" - just after setting them to 0.0.0.0

2) obviously, "brctl addif wgroup eth0" and "brctl addif wgroup
eth1" only happen *after* "brctl addbr wgroup"

I may also have answered my own question today after I stumbled
across a message about NetBeui only bridging.
The response from Lennert was:
> Only with a kernel patch, I'm afraid. Get bridge_only_ipx.diff from
> the 'experimental stuff' section of the page, apply it, and change
> the check for ETH_P_IPX to whatever the ethertype for NetBEUI is.

a subsequent post from Bart De Schuymer notes:
> NetBEUI will be the hexadecimal number
> 0x8191

So - looks like I may be heading off in that direction tonight!
Hopefully, that will allow me to still config IP addresses to at
least eth0 on the routable side of the bridge so I can browse from
the bridge PC and remote access it (from the machines in the
routed subnet) when desired.  If this works, I may look at a tiny
tiny kernel to do NetBeui alone that I can run on the smalles PC
I can build to keep permanently powered-up energy use to a minimum.

Thanks
