i put about 20 machines behind a celeron 300 with 64 Mb, 3 3COM 100mbps cards
and this is what i get in top:

 11:06am up 1 day, 3:58, 2 users, load average: 0.03, 0.01, 0.00
29 processes: 28 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 0.1% user, 0.7% system, 0.0% nice, 99.0% idle
Mem: 61512K av, 59728K used, 1784K free, 0K shrd, 20628K buff
Swap: 253976K av, 0K used, 253976K free 1088K cached

but note:

my all network works at 10 Mbps

3 nics --> 2 to bridge and another to do administrations tasks

i am using a 2.4.13-ac5 - heavly modified kernel (bridge-nf + ebtables +
iptables)

all network seems working perfectly.. no problems, and (the best) no one
seems to noticed the new "firewall" (i close some ports (kazaa, gnutella and
so on) on the network hehehe ;-)
