[Bridge] iptables

Hello!   I'm trying to test the brige firewalling under kernel 2.4.17 after I have applied the patch and recompiled the kernel   iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o eth1   does not count the traffic trough the bride   iptables -A FORWARD   does not count it either.   where am I wrong?
