Adding a IP to bridge 'br0' is only necessary if you intend to set up
firewalling. But, anyway, you _must_ bring bridge up with ifconfig
("ifconfig br0 up").
If you need firewalling, you _must_ patch your kernel with
bridge-nf-0.0.6-against-2.4.18.diff. I recommend before patching you
update iptables to 1.2.6a.

Remember: <quote>Bridge knows nothing about protocols, it only sees
ethernet frames</quote>.
If it's really necessary to reach your bridge by, let's say, ssh ... for
example...
to do a remote management, you need to assign a IP.

traceroute???

You may set up a default route.

You are not clear, does the wlan card connected directly to internet ?
