I won't give up... try compiling ebtables support and filtering with ebtables.
http://users.pandora.be/bart.de.schuymer/ebtables/ ebtables is like iptables, but it blocks not only IP packets, it has multiprotocol support. give it a try... I still don't understand why iptables don't work... hmmm...... I guess you have also activated all the modules inside netfilter configuration right? greetings!
