The hack makes the message go away but the behaviour ramains the same .
The packet is intercepted by the bridge but never gets resend .
My setup is

eth1 and eth2 participate in the bridge interface
eth0 has an ip address assigned on it .
Reverting to 2.4.14 with the appropriate bridge-nf patch works .
"Normal" ( not natted in any way ) traffic from the bridge is routed
towards both the local net and the internet normally.
