Thanks! Based on this, I went back and took another crack at my setup. Turns out that I need to put the bridge into promiscuous mode. When I do this, then I can connect to it from the outside world and vice versa.
The only issue now is that ARP response packets don' seem to be propagating from the wired side of the network to the wireless side of the network. Curiously, DHCP works. Does running tcpdump on an interface bound to a bridge provide anything meaningful?
