Hi All,
Can anyone help me out with a problem?
I have a number of HP 4000 managed switches running a number of VLANS. In particular I have a VLAN I have dedicated to a .4.255 subnet. This subnet is used by students to experiment with networking etc and so I wanted to partition this subnet from the rest of the VLANs. However, the students still need access to the outside world and so I linked the .4.255 subnet to the rest of the network with a bridging firewall. Now from an IP point of view there are no problems as the VLANs hide one side from the other. The problem is that STP ignores the VLAN partitioning and detects a loop created by the bridge and so blocks one of the ports. The STP is out of my control and I can’t find a way of stopping the port blocking. Is it possible to filter out the STP packets??
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
