It could also be that in a time of general prosperity, most Americans feel
that their lives are not terribly impacted by whomever is ostensibly
holding power in Washington.

I'll take that bet.   Sez here, that a Democrat or Republican is elected
President in 2004.  ;-)

We shall see, but Americans are notorious for rejecting third parties once
push comes to shove.
