Gord asked about the books in the so-called "new" chronology. To summarize
the theory, the new chronology claims that the 21st and 22nd Egyptian
Dynasties did not rule back to back, but rather simultaneously in a divided
country, resulting in a 350 year error in the old chronology. The
chronologies of other states are linked to Egyptian sources, so they too
are in error, creating a "Dark Age" at the end of the Bronze age, for which
the 350 year error can be a suitable explanation for the lack of evidence.
Furthermore, certain Egyptian, Hittite, and Greek geneologies tend to
contradict the old chronology, as well as a host of other evidence.
Personally, I am NOT a proponent of "Dark Ages" as I feel that sufficient
evidence should always be available to get an idea of what was going on
during these eras. Unless civilization was beaten back to the stone age and
worse, there should always be things like pottery sherds, metal tools,
midden pits, and other archaeological evidence. Even in the face of a
massive "barbarian" invasion, life would go on and people would continue to
construct metal tools.

A Test of Time by D.M Rohl (currently OOP; published by Rutgers U Press)
Centuries of Darkness by P. James and others (available on Amazon UK)

I only have a summary of the thesis of this theory, not the actual books
themselves, which are proving difficult to find (MY library doesn't have
them!). But the one is available from the UK and I will most certainly buy
it when funds become available.
