The low tech solution - hook a MiniDisc or Casette Recorder to the Audio
Out on your computer.

I asked someone about time shifting - e.g. recording a RealAudio stream
of Dr. Demento that's on Sunday at 3:00 AM. They suggested - from
experience - using a VCR's Audio In and timer capabilities.

It shouldn't be any more or less illegal than recording a radio or
television program - whether it is or isn't may not have been challenged
in court yet. Presuming your use is for time shifting and personal
viewing, it should be fine. If you want to redistribute it, you're in
trouble.
