Or, as my poet buddy Jack put it to me one night as I played some terrible
old Acker Bilk clarinet solos for him off an ancient LP: "Hey, just be
grateful you're not forced to play this music in a desperate attempt to get
to second base if you're lucky with some girl you hardly know so that you
can have some small pleasure before being shipped off to the front line to
have your legs blown off or get mustard gassed. This music doesn't sound so
bad to me, not at-all."
