The system worked as intended. Small states counted. This is a
Representative government. If Gore wins the recount then fine but for his
camp to keep asking for recount of the recount of the recount of the
election is getting rather tired. The election has been held, the votes
cast, the recount was automatic. Let the people do their job.
How does the electoral college benefit the small states precisely? The states
don't vote, individuals do. So the electoral college produces more importance
for the voters from small states than those of us in large states. Now 200+
years ago this was the intent but should we accept that now? I think not.
The small states do have the method of Senate sellection to protect them.
Here the state is a real entity. We vote as residents of a state. The state
political party provides us with the candidates. If the candidates don't do
things that help the state they lose elections. But how does the presidential
election help the states? It really can't unless you start talking about
illegal things like the state officials rigging the national election in
return for favors from the president. We did away with indirect election of
senators in the last century. it is high time to do the same for the
presidency.
