I guess the point is
that all aliens are humans on a basic level, and come out that way
regardless
of their sensory "hardware" and brain structure.  That is, they all have
short-term memory, long term memory, emotions, biased attitudes, and
personalities just like homo sapiens have.  Less so for the transcendants
and
Powers who *are* inscrutable.

They also have the same imperative that all replicators have - to replicate.
So they have to reproduce. They have to both cooperate and compete. They will
need sex (in all likelihood) to protect them from parasites which they will
have to have as well. They will have some sort of genetic code based on some
chemical that is or acts like DNA. If they move they will need light sensors
and these will probably be on heads etc. In otherwords, there are design
constraints that alien life forms will be subjected to and I would guess that
many of our mental activities will be present as well although somewhat
different (subtle or not).
