IIRC, Peron was deposed, then elected.

The brazilian analogue of Peron, Getulio Vargas, took power in a "revolution"
in 1930 [to depose a republican system that was oligarchy-based; Sao
Paulo and Minas Gerais controlled the old republic to the loss of Rio de
Janeiro and other states] and became a harsh dictator, flirting with the
nazis but eventually alligning with the USA in WW2. When the generals
came back from WW2, they realized that it was stupid to fight fascism
in Europe and support fascism home, so they deposed him. But he
was elected Senator in 1945, and President in 1950. His second
presidenceship terminated with his suicide, after he tried to kill one of
his oppositors and was almost being deposed again. His ghost still
haunts br politics :-/
