As a followup to our recent discussion, this week's
_The Economist_ has some updates.

-Mr. Kamen issued a statement on 12 Jan: "We have a
promising project, but nothing of the earth-shattering
nature that people are conjuring up."

-"Mr. Kamen and others applied for a patent in
December on a two-wheeled 'personal mobility device'
that resembles a scooter. Mr. Kame is also known to
have done research into a novel kind of enginge that
might power such a device."

There goes my hoverboard..... ;-)

P.S. The article concludes "The likelihood that he is
developing a scooter will no doubt disappoint many
people. But what is most extraordinary about the
affiar is how widespread the desire (at least among
the media) seems to be for the Next Big Thing.
Tellingly, none of the suggesitons about what Ginger
might be have centered on innovations incomputing or
on the Internet. The motion that mere computer
hardware and software can change the world has, it
seems, already fallen from grace."
