Transparency, invasion of privacy or corporate espionage?

I ran across this article today, and after thinking about it for a while,
the technology has the potential to be quite scary.

Here is the first few paragraphs from the article:

By D. IAN HOPPER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Imagine a large corporation wants to acquire a small Web
company. The corporation sends an e-mail with a price proposal to the
target - and includes a few lines of invisible computer code.

As the target's executives pass the message around, the corporation gets a
copy each time it's forwarded - with all the supposedly private comments
attached.

On Monday, a privacy group started demonstrating this new method to listen
in on e-mail that works on the most popular programs.

Wow! Who could have guessed that all of those crank emails could have been
for real? If I had followed the instructions and mailed the emails to 20
people, by now I could have had $4,561, a free trip to Disney World, free
dinner from Lonestar and a free pink BMW! :-0

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look
at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up
of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these
words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.
