The area of the Rainforest that was destroyed last
century was bigger than the area of Portugal. Much
bigger.

But the worst damage was done to Espiro Santo, a
br state between Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais,
Bahia and the Atlantic Ocean. Something like 97% of
the native cover was totally destroyed, and most of
it can be blamed to one man (!). If Ecological 
Conscience becomes the standard in our future, this
guy might be considered a villain worse than the
genocidals of XX century (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, 
Pol Pot, etc).
