Let's phrase it another way - are there people in the world that would envy
Truman's life and opportunities? I'd say it's likely - a few billion people
would probably take his place in a heartbeat.

It appeared that for most of the first part of his life - say, through age
18 or so - it wasn't that different than any other life - full of product
placements, people with their own agendas, and hidden cameras; I would have
a hard time believing that his parents didn't love him. After that they
started getting malicious in their manipulation.

We're all raised for a purpose; at the very least, Trumans' was well
understood. Compare/contrast with the children for whom my wife was just
nannying for; as best as my wife can figure, the parents had the children
because it was socially expected of them, not because they necessarily
wanted to or were willing to alter their lifestyle to accomodate them.
