Chapter 12: Semper Ubi Sub Ubi
By: John D. Giorgis
*************************************************

Introduction:
Woo Hoo!

The last installment of the Lurker's Guide to The Practice Effect.

Title:
The title is the favorite of Latin students everywhere: "always where under
where."
In reality, though, it is more importantly a parody of "All's Well That
Ends Well."

Analysis:
This chapter begins with a fast-forward from the events of the previous
chapter. Dennis has proposed to Linnora, won consent from Prince Linsee
(and Linnora), and has now slept for a very long time. Fortunately, the
war is essentially over, for now. The very first thing our hero does,
however, is dress without wearing underwear. Uh oh.....

Dennis finds Linnora out in the meadows sitting underneath the airplane.
She's creating quite a stir, dressing in masculine clothes, showing no fear
of the airplane, sitting in dirt, and demaninding to be Dennis' apprentice.

Arth returns, and Brin employs a textbook running gag. Arth, however, has
a companion - Mr. Brady. This spurns the final "Scooby Doo" scene, where
Brin explains everything, from the mysterious raven in the opening scene
onwards.

The second to last page, however, contains a brief hint of what we will see
from Brin in the future, where he questions the ethics of the future
science of bioengineering, that will replace most tools with specially
engineered lifeforms.

Notes:
pg 265 - Lands to the east of the L'Toff are more populous.

pg 273 - The two most important discoveries were bioengineering and
zievatronics

pg 273 - "Physics was a dead end by the year 2000. Oh there were lots of
abstract problems, but nothing that seemed to offer a way to bring other
worlds within mankind's grasp."
