Thanks, John. Well, I was in school, doing a two year computing program in
ten months, at Capilano College (htttp://www.capcollege.bc.ca). Geek
school! :-) We did all the courses needed for an MCSE designation in NT 4.
We also had a scattering of other couses - accounting, marketing,
introductory programming in Visual Basic. The other focus of the program
was database design - theory, and practical using Access 97.
I didn't feel strong enough in programming or database design to look for a
job in those fields when I got out of school, so I looked for one in network
administration (which is what I love doing anyways). I couldn't find a job
in the field, though. It seems that entry level jobs in network
administration are few and far between. So I took a low wage job with a
subcontractor to the local cable operator, installing networks cards in and
configuring the computers of people who order the @Home high speed internet
service.
I'm studying my VB textbook from school to learn programming while I keep my
eyes open, looking for a better paying job in the computer field (I've got
big student loans to repay!). It appears that programming or database
design are the areas where the level of pay and job availability are what I
want, so I'd better get good at them!
If any of you hear of a possible job opportunity for me, I'd appreciate it
if you let me know. The job I have now isn't giving me the steady work I
was promised. I'm flexible as to location, although obtaining a U.S. work
visa at the present time would involve some creative storytelling on my
behalf by my prospective employer to the INS... :-(
Now that I have a new career, I'm also looking for a new relationship with
an eye towards getting married. Again, I'm asking for the list's help. If
you know someone who might be interested in a guy like me, please send them
to here: http://kiss.com/search/KissDetail.asp?MatchID=234873
to find out more about me. Distance is no object - I"m currently
corresponding with someone in Bozeman, Montana, and Volgograd, Russia.
Anything else? I don't think so - I think I'm still much the same person,
and I'm still living in the same place - Vancouver (a.k.a. Raintown -
although not this winter). Life is pretty good, and I'm looking forward to
diving into the discussions here! :-) I hope that you are all well, and
happy, and I know that I'm going to have fun again while I'm here!
