Excession (no spoilers)

Finished this Bank's saga this week and am wondering what others thought of
it.  I enjoyed the book for the most part, but felt a bit overwhelmed by the
sheer number of characters especially the non-human ones (read ships).  

E. is my fourth Banks SF, Consider Phlebas is still tops on my list but I
think Excession is worth a reread with a concerted effort to keep track of the
intrigue.
