Yes, and that's the big advantage of carpet against stone or
wood floors. Carpet "binds" dust, so it doesn't fly around in
the house. With a stone or a wood floor, one should use the
vacuum cleaner even more often (in theory, as running a vacuum
cleaner also has negative side effects on one's health). As
dust is more visible on a stone or wood floor than in a carpet,
this means that such a floor is cleaned more often than the 
average carpet anyway.
