No. Ethiopia was a monarchy, probably the oldest
continuous monarchy of the world. The Emperors of
Ethiopia claimed descendency from Salomon himself,
through Menelik [sp?], the son of Salomon and the
Queen of Saba [sp?]. At least after contact with
the Europeans, Ethiopia remained stable, with the
throne passing from father to son, until the commies
deposed Haile Selassie.
