Keisha and I visited the happy family yesterday afternoon. Little
Sammy is a gorgeous little boy, remarkably calm for someone thrust
suddenly from the only home he's ever known. His eyes are currently blue,
his hair currently blond, but that may change of course. He's remarkaly
large for someone that's come out of Julia, but if you look at the daddy
and his family it makes sense. Big head--14 inches, IIRC. But he has a
strong neck, 'cause he can already lift that hefty load.

He cries a bit with diaper changes & feeding & such, but he seems to quiet
down quickly and spend the rest of the time asleep and happy. That
conclusion's only based on a mere 45 minutes of observation, mind you...!

Julia looks healthy and proud, if exhausted. Dan looks happy and stunned
and highly protective and full of adoration for Sam and for mommy, which
anyone who knows him could have predicted with 100% accuracy, methinks.
Still, it's cool to see.

Gross bits:

Sam was circumcised yesterday morning, but appears to be over it.
Based on conversations between the parents and the nurses, I
conclude that he's healing nicely and peeing with hearty abandon. Dan
reports that he's amazed at the amount of poo that has come out of Sam in
his first day of corporeal independence. I gather it's mostly from fluids
ingested while still in the womb. Dan was trying to visualize Sam's
digestive tract--small intestines, large intestines, stomach,
esophagus--and wondering just how close to being "topped off" Sam was when
he was born.

Finally, there appear to be no serious complications regarding
breastfeeding...for more details I'll refer you to Julie when she returns.
Assuming things go as planned, the family will be back at home this
afternon.
