Julia --

The Bili light has been around since I've been in nursing (more years than
you wanna know about). We used to have to tape a little mask over the
baby's eyes and put them under the light (I think it's UV, neh?) This
sounds like a more sane system, and Sam doesn't have to be in the hospital
=+)). Bili lights work very well, and the bilirubin usually returns to
normal in a few days. Many many babies have this problem -- it's the
result of all those red blood cells breaking down at once. The baby is red
cell rich to get through birth, and then the extra ones start to die off
and bilirubin is released from the cell breakdown.

I *love* the borg analogy. Make sure you get lots of pictures so you can
show them to his prom date in sixteen years (a little embarrassment keeps
the kids loose =+)).

Amities,

Jo Anne
