It didn't suddenly change. It evolved. Most of Colonial Britain happened
during Victoria's reign (?1832? - 1901), anyway.
The House of Commons dates back to the 13th Century, and the full
distinction between the Commons and the Lords in the 14th Century.
First Prime Minister was Sir Robert Walpole, from 1720 to 1740 or so.
Parliament in Britain has evolved since then, we haven't had a 'revolution'
or a massive upheaval since James II was booted out (for being Catholic...)
and we asked William of Orange and Mary his wife to come take the throne as
joint sovereigns. That was 1688...
