Hi all,
It took me a while but finally I'm back on the list. Already found out
that parenting is a full day (and night) job. Being as sick as I was
before delivery I didn't have much energy left to spend on other things
besides junior's most direct needs once he was born. Now a week out of
hospital I'm slowly getting back to full strength. The word here being
slowly. Getting up at 3 AM in the night doesn't really help speed up my
recovery, but I'm starting to get used to it. :o). But I must say that
Tom really is an angel (psst don't tell him I said that). He sleeps
between meals and is satisfied with a few hours of undivided attention
each day. During the night he demands only one meal and sometimes he
even waits for a more civilised hour like 5 AM to demand it. Things he
really doesn't like: being changed into another diaper or taking a bath.
But hey I can't have it all, now can I.
As for the delivery: It was a breeze. Absolutely perfect (or so I've
been told by all present). Looks like I'm really build for having kids.
Went throught the motions in a continuing easy pace and junior worked
with me all the way. After only 7 more or less easy hours (only the last
half hour was a bit of work) everything was over and I held a wonderfull
baby boy in my arms. He really looked like a miniature Jeroen during
those first few hours. Funny thing was that most of the hospital staff
were really taken with him. Must be that cute head of his. I already had
to keep an eye on him and the women around him. ;o) A promising start
then. ;o)
If it weren't for being so terribly sick in the days before delivery and
for a bit after I'd do it again gladly. It looks like besides the nasty
infection I also responded overly sensitive to my own hormones. So it
was a combination of causes that had the doctors so worried they decided
that since I had dilation it would be best to induce labour right away.
One of the things I'm rather very happy about is that I got through the
whole of the delivery without any injury. If it weren't for the
exhaustion, dehydration and mallnutrition from throwing up during 6 days
and nights I would have been home the same day. On the other hand after
the delivery I got 5 days of total pampering in hospital before they
send me home. All considered well I feel that (although the reason for
it was being so very sick) I was rather lucky to have had that rest
period before returning home. Otherwise I'd never have managed.
And now, since Tom is still quietly sleeping while digesting his last
meal, I'll take the opportunity to return to the app. 1000 mails that
are currently clogging my inbox. So you'll be hearing from me soon.
Sonja, one _very_ happy parent.
