In last week's issue of _The Economist_ (dated June 16th-22nd, 2001 with "Does Inequality Matter?" on the cover), Brineller Brad DeLong gets quoted on Page 3 of the special "Survey: The New Rich" Section in the center of the magazine. The quote is from Brad's new book "History of the 20th Century Economy: Slouching Towards Utopia." The quote notes that most Americans' standard of living is "beyond the reach of even the richest of previous centuries. Even lower-middle-class households in relatively poor countries have today material standards of living that would make them, in many respects, the envy of the powerful and lordly of past centuries." JDG - Who is excited to be in such distinguished company. P.S. And if there's another Bradford DeLong out there who's a prominent economist, and I confused the two, my apologies. Unfortunately, the article didn't list "Brin-L" among his credentials. :) (nor Berkeley, for that matter.) ===== John D.
