Maybe yes, maybe no. It would depend on lots of things. For instance, how
much would a truely safe windmill cost. Remember you need lots of them, they
have to mass produced. They may have to be made from exotic (read rare and
expensive materials). They have to be checked for wear and tear. With a nuc
plant, you are only building one, it has a higher profit margin so you can
afford more expensive materials. You can check one plant more safely.
If someone figures out how to build a cost effective reactor, that person
will make a pot of money. There is major incentive for success but so far no
one has figured out how to do it.
