My 13 year old son thought both "Tomb Raider" (Lara Croft) and "Swordfish"
are awesome movies. But then he's probably fair and square in the target
audience, not to mention now starting to admit to liking girls.

My 18 year old daughter also liked Swordfish, but any movie that has Hugh
Jackman taking some of his clothes off gets a good rating from her. She
rates X-men higher than Swordfish.

"Shrek" is excellent (5 Joshes). A genuine multi-layer movie that can have
kids down to 3 and grown ups all laughing, sometimes even at the same thing.
You can also play a bit of "spot the film reference" in it too, without it
becoming just a pastiche of many other movies in the way Independence Day
was. Lots of fun and really great graphics. Eddie Murphy has done some great
voice work in Shrek and also "Mulan".

For grown ups, I really recommend "Memento" - as seen in previous email,
backing up Darryl. Probably not nearly enough sex or flesh in it for you,
though, Alberto. ;-( And most of the flesh shown is Guy Pearce, which means
my daughter will like that movie too.)

I've already posted my recommendation for "Moulin Rouge". Seen it twice,
will see it again and will get the DVD when it comes out. A real lot of fun,
great use of songs and a film you'll never forget. Favourite bits: Roxanne,
Like a Virgin, the Elephant Medley and The Show Must Go On. Freddie
(Mercury) would definitely approve. 4.5 Joshes

"Pearl Harbor" has about 25 minutes of great flying action, using my
favourite aeroplane - the Curtiss P40N /Kittyhawk IV - and some great
Spitfire flying. The other 2.5 hours are not really worth it. If anyone
wants to start a thread picking this film to pieces I'll happily jump in.
Wouldn't even consider this as a video rental. 0.5 Joshes, and that only for
the flying.

"The Gift" is quite a good film, much better than most of the "dark doings
in the Deep South" movies. Carried mainly by Cate Blanchett's performance.
But it does have some of Keanu Reeve's best work - he really is very good in
this film. But keeps his clothes on. 3 Joshes

Really looking forward to "AI" which comes out here in September, dammit.

Still haven't decided about "Planet of the Apes", but it won't be out here
til next month. Will maybe see "Jurassic Park 3".

PS: Only 4 of the films listed above do NOT have Australian actors in them,
which is pretty amazing. And no, the list isn't meant to be biased towards
Australians, it's just some of our best and brightest are pretty busy these
days.
